About Pierre Putman

Pierre Putman (b. 1974) is a visual artist and photographer based in Ghent, Belgium. He holds a master's degree in printmaking from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Ghent.

Photography began as a tool, preliminary studies for prints, a way of working through questions of composition, space and light. Over time, the medium outgrew that purpose and became something within its own right.

Drawn to isolated scenes, hidden cinematic views and the calmness of the night, his work moves through deserted streets, empty highways, dimly lit stairwells and solitary figures. The images sit somewhere between stillness and narrative, high-contrast, atmospheric, often compared to film noir stills. His objective is to produce enigmatical, mysterious and evocative imagery.
